Art changes people and people change the world.
My work focuses on connecting people with nature and our environment.
My name is Wing Kong, and I am an environmental artist, nature photographer and sustainability educator.
Giving discarded items new life and meaning is the foundation of my artistic practice. Using unconventional materials and photographs with stories to tell about our ecosystem and sustainability,
I enjoy sharing the inspiration and excitement I feel when discovering found items that have been discarded and giving them new life and meaning in my murals. Through the use of unconventional materials that have stories to tell about our ecosystem and sustainability. My art helps people see the world around them with a different perspective. The reaction can be one of awe and appreciation, but also a sense of shock and alarm about the damage that so much waste is doing to wildlife and nature. Creating something beautiful, awe-inspiring, thought-provoking and educational out of common items that people have thrown away is important and rewarding to me. We need more people to continue protecting and care for our community. If seeing and appreciating one of my murals causes one person to think twice before tossing that bottle, can, plastic bag, or fishing line in the woods or on the water, it was worth it.
I am a NYC based artist/educator.

Activate Our Garden Program
An award-winning STEAM program focused on sustainability and gardening.
Long before I became an environmental artist and nature photographer, I was a sustainability educator in my children’s elementary school called Activate Our Garden. I brought in the value and importance of growing and tending to sustainable gardens; creating safe and welcoming areas for pollinators that are essential to the survival of our ecosystem; and understanding the value and importance of recycling as part of our daily practice to bring us closer to nature, our environment and each other.
I am proud that my initiatives have not only raised awareness and appreciation, but also resulted in behavior change. As a result of my education and efforts, We reached our goal of ZERO plastic bags or containers were purchased for bake sales, book sales and other related events before NYC plastic bag ban was in place.
Additionally, disposable toys sold during fund-raising events have been reduced by 60 percent compared to previous years. And my environmental art mural project won numerous city-wide sustainability and art awards.

A parallel passion of mine is nature photography. When the COVID-19 shutdown occurred, I decided to view it as an opportunity to explore new interests and passions. I dust off a storage box and took out my camera that I bought years ago and the rest was history. I have enjoyed connecting with nature and our environment, and capturing images of birds, bees and butterflies. Rather calling myself a photographer, I am more of a visual journalist with a camera. It has been rewarding to share these images with the community, while feeling connected to wildlife, my natural surroundings, and my fellow neighbors and community members who have also seized this opportunity to grow, learn and inspire others.
Shop for artwork from Wing's nature themed collections. Each image may be purchased as a canvas print, framed print, metal print, and more! https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/wing-k/shop

WHY BUTTERFLIES?
Why Butterflies and Wing?
I have been raising butterflies for years AND because my name is Wing ... and it is my goal to uplift everyone I encounter and help them spread their wings and learn how to fly.
Beautiful, transformative butterflies have been a source of awe and inspiration for me along my artistic journey. Whether it is gardening, photography, or the creation of my art, the poetic beauty of the butterfly -- its metamorphosis and triumphant journey -- is never far from my heart, my conservation efforts or my art.
Conservation work is not easy. If you like my work, please consider supporting me by buy me a coffee or buy me a milkweed.
